WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Out-of-state lawyers in Colorado
In May's What You Need to Know, we answer frequently asked questions about practicing in the state of Colorado when utilizing single client certification or foreign legal consultant certification.
  • May an out-of-state licensed attorney practice law in Colorado as an employee for an entity located in Colorado?

  • May a foreign-licensed attorney practice law in Colorado?
Find answers to the questions above, including a link to the application of certification and where to find more information, by clicking here: What You Need to Know About Single Client Certification and Foreign Legal Consultant Certification.

Child support orders and "side agreements"
A lawyer has an obligation under the Rules of Professional Conduct to comply with court orders to pay child support. Regardless of whether there are "side agreements" with your spouse or those involved, a lawyer is still subject to discipline for non-compliance with a court order. Find out how the Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel handles these situations in this article by Assistant Regulation Counsel Alan Obye: Lawyer's Obligation to Pay Court-Ordered Child Support.

YOU - YES, YOU! - COULD USE A MENTOR

While mentoring at the early stages of one’s career is beneficial and recommended, the need for mentorship does not dissipate over time. But for every lawyer who recognizes the benefit of mentoring at all career stages, there are several who miss the opportunity. This article by Kelly Rosenberg, Deputy Director of the Colorado Attorney Mentoring Program, describes how lawyers could benefit from mid-career mentoring. You - Yes, YOU! - Could Use a Mentor
