WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel is currently open with most of its staff working remotely. We have a number of changes to our business operations to avoid the need for attorneys, applicants or members of the public to visit our Office and to reduce the need for staff to be in our Office. Please click here to learn more. This webpage will be updated as needed, and will include any changes to our internal procedures, deadlines, or ways of getting in touch with us. Please check back frequently to ensure you have up-to-date information.

CALL TO ACTION

Do you have new lateral attorneys in your Office? Did they register with us?

The February 28 attorney registration deadline has come and gone, but registration is still possible with late fees applicable. Often an attorney fails to register with our Office after changing jobs and forgetting that the new employer may not have taken care of this year’s registration. Please remind new laterals in your firm, company, agency or other setting to confirm their registration with us if they do not recall having registered between December 1, 2019 and February 28, 2020!

Demographic survey deadline extended

The deadline to respond to the online demographic survey has been extended! If you have not yet completed this voluntary and anonymous survey, please do so by March 31. The survey results help us better understand the demographics of the legal profession in Colorado. To complete the survey, click here.

Interested in the results? Watch for the blast email later this spring with a link to our Office’s 2019 Annual Report, which will include the demographic survey results and other data about Colorado’s attorney regulation system.

We’re looking for volunteers

In addition to our staff, our Office relies on volunteer committee members, including non-lawyers, to provide oversight for the rules, procedures and matters concerning attorney admission, registration, and regulation, as well as the unauthorized practice of law. We are accepting applications on a rolling basis for any of the boards and committees supported by the Office of Attorney Regulation Counsel. For a description of each board and committee, as well as the online application, please visit our website: http://coloradosupremecourt.com/AboutUs/Committees.asp.

FOSTERING RESILIENCE IN THE PROFESSION

How do we foster resilience, particularly in these turbulent times? COLAP’s Outreach & Volunteer Manager Amy Kingery provides guidance on developing resilient organizations through relationships. Click here.

PROFESSIONALISM AND THE COURTS

Are you subject to a civility order? Two of Colorado’s judicial districts have stand-alone civility orders. Judges are also including civility orders as part of other standard case orders. Learn how judges are incorporating expectations regarding civility and professionalism in the courtroom. Click here.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING UPCOMING DEADLINES

April 1: Application deadline for July 2020 bar exam.

April 1: $200 late fee applies to attorney registrations after this date.

UPCOMING EVENTS: NATIONAL LAWYER WELL-BEING WEEK

Calling all judges, lawyers, law students, and legal professionals: National Lawyer Well-Being Week for individuals, organizations, and law firms is May 4-8, 2020. You focus on other people’s problems all year; take at least one week to focus on your own well-being in this stressful profession! Unsure how to engage in the focus? There are several pre-planned ideas and activities, so we’ll make it as easy as possible to participate. Please click here for more information.
