STANDARD PROCESS GUIDELINES

The STANDARD PROCESS is for applicants with disabilities who have more extensive access needs, and therefore may need to provide additional evidence so the OAA can more fully understand their access needs.

An applicant can request accommodations that are not covered by the STREAMLINED PROCESS, such as off-the-clock breaks, additional time exceeding 25% of standard test time, different exam settings, or different exam material formats.

The STANDARD PROCESS requires an applicant to provide the OAA with certain documentation to demonstrate the need for the accommodation to ensure equal access to the exam.

The STANDARD PROCESS requires the applicant to submit one or more of the following combinations:

• 2 documents from Category A + 1 document from Category C or
• 1 document from Category A + 1 document from Category D or
• 1 document from Category B + 1 document from Category D or
• 1 document from Category A + 1 document from Category B + 1 document from Category C

The same document cannot be used to satisfy the requirement for more than one Category.

Note that a specific diagnosis is not required and accommodations decisions are not made solely on the basis of any particular diagnosis. Also, even when a treatment provider recommends a specific accommodation (such as a specific testing schedule) or the applicant previously received a specific accommodation, that specific accommodation may not be appropriate for the purposes of the licensure exam or may be counter-productive in the context of a long licensure exam. An applicant should thoroughly consider factors such as overall duration of a testing day in deciding what accommodation to request under the Standard Process.
